Welcome to our Year 1 Topic Work
Year 1 Harvest Assembly
Well done to all of the Year 1 children on their fantastic Harvest Assembly!
We enjoyed the wonderful singing, dancing and learning all about Harvest.
Thank you to the Year 1 staff for preparing the children so well.
Thank you to all children and parents for your kind donations for Harvest
. All food donations have been sent to Atherton Food Bank.
In Science we have been learning about carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.
The children enjoyed investigating 'dinosaur poo' to determine whether the creature was in fact a meat eater, plant eater or both.
Our new arrivals have arrived at Lowton West
The chicks had a weekend away at Mrs Meighan and Mrs Pounceys houses. They got spoilt rotten and had a great time and are growing fast.
We have 7 chicks in the infants and 9 chicks in the juniors.
The wings are really starting to develop and it's amazing to see how they have changed since they were eggs less than a week ago.
The junior chicks have started the week in year 6 and will be working their way around the juniors. They are growing fast. They are Nova Browns and generally the brown ones are girls and the yellow ones boys.
They have moved around school and spent time in every class and all of the children have had a chance to see, look after and handle the chicks.
It is amazing how much they have grown over the week and sometimes hard to believe that just over a week ago they were still eggs.
It has been a wonderful experience having them in school and one that all the children seem to have enjoyed.
Some wonderful memories have been made. Unfortunately, their time with us has come to an end and they are now going to a farm.
We have all had a great time looking after the chicks and they will be greatly missed.
Thanks again to the Friends Association for funding this.
In Geography, the children worked together in groups to create messy maps.
Their maps illustrated the journey which was made in the story 'We Are Going on a Bear Hunt'.
They used materials found around the classroom to create their 3D maps.
As part of the English lesson, the children took part in a hot seating session whereby children took turns taking on the role of the characters from the story Little Red Riding Hood and asking the characters specific questions.
We hope that you have enjoyed looking at our Year 1 Topic Work!
