Welcome to our Year 3 Topic Work
Year 3 Trip – Tatton Park
A Step Back to the Saxon Age
On Tuesday, Year 3 went on their school trip to Tatton Park’s Old Hall for a step back in time to the Saxon Age. After a welcome from ‘Tatter’ - the Saxon Chief, the children were led to the ancient hall where they learned about life in the Saxon era. The rest of the morning session was spent learning about life as a Saxon warrior, learning how to fight and protect your army during the Viking invasion.
After a well-earned lunch, the afternoon session taught the children how Saxons hunted and cooked for their families, using very basic food and ingredients. They were then shown how leather, horn, amber, and wool were used to make house hold items and decorative jewellery, as well as making themselves a simple woollen bracelet to take home.
The day out was so much fun as well as being informative at the same time. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves which showed in their exemplary behaviour throughout the day.

Year 3 History Alive
‘History Alive’ visited the Year 3 children and gave them the opportunity to explore Egyptian life and examine Ancient Egyptian artefacts. The children thoroughly enjoyed dressing up as Egyptian children, acting out their daily jobs and looking at artefacts such as canopic jars and scarob beetles.
“The Friends of Lowton West” have kindly paid for a History Alive performance and workshop which will help to consolidate the children’s knowledge and understanding of this topic.
