A whole school assembly took place on the 15th November 2015 about the importance of saving energy.

Litter

For children to continue to pick up rubbish in the school grounds (if safe to do so)

LD has worked with KS1 Eco members and LP with KS2 Eco members, collecting rubbish using the litter pickers.

 

RHS Campaign for School Gardening

 

 

We would like to thank Mrs Pouncey, one of our parent governors, for all her hard work with the gardening in school. The planters look fantastic and the children have really enjoyed working with Mrs Pouncey. Recently, the school have successfully achieved the Level 1 and 2 RHS Campaign for School Gardening. Many thanks to Mrs Pouncey for enabling the school to receive these certificates. The school will receive some seeds and a book for attaining Levels 1 and 2. We will also be entered into a raffle for some free gardening equipment!

Eco Meeting – 21st November 2016

 

Present: LD, LP, Eco Committee Members CB, IW, CT, LG, LF, BE, OM, RH, RW, NH, LE, EY

 

  1. LD welcomed the new Eco Committee. (Eco Team took part in a gardening club last half term, each Monday after school.)
  2. Discussed with pupils the role of Eco Committee members. e.g. litter picking, reminding pupils of the importance of turning off lights and computers.
  3. LD discussed possible ideas for this year’s Eco Action Plan.
  4. LD and LP discussed with pupils the school garden. LD thanked all the Eco Members for their hard work with the school garden last term.
  5. LD introduced the topic ‘Switch Off Fortnight’. LD discussed possible ideas for the assembly. Pupils to meet next week to prepare for assembly. Assembly will take place on Monday 28th November to the whole school.
  6. LD asked if all KS1 Eco Committee members could meet her every Monday break time to collect litter. LP is going to work with the Junior Eco committee members to collect litter on the junior yard.

 

 

Eco Meeting – 1st February 2016

 

Present: Mrs Dulhanty, Mrs Pouncey, C3(Ab), C4, C5 (Ab), C6, C7, C8, C9, C10, C11, C12, C13, C14.

  1. Mrs Dulhanty discussed how important it is to make sure lights are turned off when teachers are not in the room. Eco Members have been asked to be vigilant and ensure lights and projectors are turned off when not in use.
  2. Mrs Dulhanty has registered our school to take part in the RSPB Big Schools Bird watch. Members of the Eco team are planning to take part in a bird watch on Monday 8th February. Mrs Pouncey has kindly collected 5 pairs of binoculars for us to use for this activity. Children have been reminded about bringing in an old pair of shoes/wellies for this activity. Mrs Dulhanty will send all results electronically to the RSPB. Mrs Dulhanty and members of the Eco Team will talk about this in assembly on Friday 12th February.
  3. Eco Day has been moved to the 17th March. This coincides with Waste Week. Members of the team discussed ideas for Eco day with a theme of ‘Waste’.
  • All pupils wear green.
  • Eco Team to present an assembly to school on the theme of Waste.
  • Competition winners to be announced.
  • ‘Waste’ activities to be planned by Mrs Dulhanty for pupils to carry out in class.
  • Mrs Dulhanty has contacted RSPB about a possible Outreach session on this day. Mrs Dulhanty has also contacted Kingfisher Education about working with Year 5 pupils on this day around the topic ‘Water Waste’.
  1. Mrs Pouncey and Mrs Dulhanty would very much like gardening club to restart after the Easter holidays.
  2. Following from the successful bottle competition last year, pupils will have the opportunity to take part in a competition around the theme of ‘Waste’ this year. Mrs Dulhanty is going to introduce in assembly on Friday 12th February a new competition. For this pupils are able to design and make something using a bottle e.g. bird feeder, plant pot. Examples will be shown in assembly. Prizes to be announced on Eco Day.

 

 

Eco Meeting  – Friday 13th November

Present: LD, Eco Committee Members

  1. Mrs Dulhanty shared some of the resources for ‘Switch Off Fortnight’.
  2. Mrs Dulhanty and members of the Eco team discussed parts for the assembly on the topic – ‘Switch Off Fortnight’. Pupils prepared for the assembly.
  3. Mrs Dulhanty showed children a Power Point presentation to highlight the importance of saving energy. Eco Team members identified ways in which we can reduce the energy we use, such as turning off lights when we are not in the room and learning about the impact of burning fossil fuels.

Monday 16th November – The Eco Committee presented a very informative assembly on a campaign called ‘Switch off Fortnight’.

  1. LD welcomed the new Eco Committee.
  2. LD looked at last year’s Action plan with pupils and discussed possible ideas for this year’s plan.
  3. Discussed with pupils the role of Eco Committee members. e.g. litter picking, reminding pupils of the importance of turning off lights and computers.
  4. LD and LP discussed with pupils the school garden. Last year’s Eco Committee team worked extremely hard in looking after the school garden and LD discussed dates for a new gardening club. This is to begin Oct ’15.
  5. LP introduced a new experiment that we are going to take part in called ‘Under your feet’. LP shared some of the resources that had been sent to her.
  6. LD asked if all KS1 Eco Committee members could meet her every Monday break time to collect litter. LP is going to work with the Junior Eco committee members to collect litter on the junior yard.
  7. LD explained to children that November is energy month. LD and Eco Committee members to deliver an assembly on this theme, to the rest of the school week beginning 16th November.
